The VARPU design was created in collaboration between Aalto University and Lapuan Kankurit and was designed by Matilda Palmu. Matilda's goal is to design products that have a message, be it just a friendly "hello, smile, it's not that serious". Matilda pulls her inspiration from many different avenues, but mostly she becomes exhilarated by colours and materials. The first signs of spring are the catkins: the dangling flower clusters are the inspiration for the VARPU series.

In our collection we have an ease-care runner (48x150 cm) and a multipurpose towel (48x48 cm), which is suitable as a cloth or a napkin. The products are made of bio-organic cotton and European linen and are woven in our own weaving mill in Lapua, Finland.

Made out of Masters of Linen long staple linen yarn, grown and spun in Europe and out of bio organic cotton spun in Europe according Öko-Tex standard. . Yarns are dyed in Europe, mainly in Finland nearby the weaving mill. Product development and design, material purchasing, bindings of the fabric and programming of the jacquard machine is done in own weaving mill in Finland. Warping, preparing, weaving, finishing, drying and fabric inspection is done in own weaving mill in Finland. Sewing in own daughter sewing company in Lithuania or in subsidiaries located nearby the weaving mill in Finland. Accessories come from Europe, mainly from Finland. Main part of production is made in Finland. Country of origin is Finland.

Matilda Palmu

Matilda Palmu is a designer and an artist who works with many different materials. In her work artistic expression and design based problem solving go hand in hand. Matilda's aim is to design products that have some kind of statement or a message whether it is commenting on a current phenomena or just saying "hey, smile, it's not so serious". She gets her inspiration from many different things but her greatest inspiration source are colours and materials.
