Designer Oiva Toikka created the vivid Helle pattern in the 1980s for Arabia Pro Arte. The original design is now featured on a new selection of cups and plates, including different-sized plates and mugs. Now available in amethyst, Helle tableware mixes beautifully with other Iittala collections such as Teema or Teema Tiimi. The smallest of the Helle plates is perfect for serving dips, spreads and sauces or storing your jewellery by your bed.

Iittala's rectangular plate from the Oiva Toikka Collection is adorned with the multicoloured Helle print, originally designed for Arabia in the 1980s. The A7-sized plate can be used as a serving dish for spreads and sauces.

The Helle plate is part of Iittala's collection titled the Curious Mind of Oiva Toikka. The collection's items are decorated with colourful, vibrant patterns based on original sketches and drawings found in the archives of Finnish designer and artist Oiva Toikka. The playful collection celebrates the endless imagination and bold expression of the legendary Finnish glass artist. “I’m not looking for perfection. I want it to be fun!” as Toikka himself has famously put it.

Oiva Toikka

Oiva Toikka (b.1931) is one of the great personas of Finnish glass design. His imaginative, rich and bold glass art is a departure from mainstream Nordic design. Toikka’s individual style is also evident in the utility objects he creates as they often deviate from the traditional clean-lined puritanism of Finnish design aesthetics. In addition to glass, his artistic activities cover staging, fashion design and plastic interior design elements.
